SURREY — Surrey-White Rock MLA Trevor Halford announced today that he will support Kevin Falcon to be the next leader of the BC Liberal Party. Halford released the following statement:
“I’m very proud and excited to endorse Kevin Falcon to be the next leader of the BC Liberal Party.
As the youngest MLA in the BC Liberal Caucus and one of only a few BC Liberal MLAs in the Lower Mainland, I’m conscious of the need for our party to broaden its appeal and address the challenges facing our party and our province.
I’ve known Kevin for a long time. He’s been an active organizer in the Surrey community and a proven leader in cabinet for our province. He knows what it’s going to take to modernize and renew our party, and win back the types of ridings like the one he used to represent — and many more.
Kevin understands that in order to grow, our party must become more inclusive and more diverse. He will lead the party with a strong, talented team of candidates from a wide range of backgrounds.
BC will need a strong private sector economy to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kevin wants to create more opportunities for our workforce by removing barriers to entry — especially for racialized communities and women.
One of the areas we need to act on quickly is child care. Parents should have affordable and accessible child care regardless of where in the province they live. Kevin is committed to making this a reality.
I want a prosperous future for my kids, just as I know Kevin does for his. For that to be possible, we need a competent leader who knows how to get the job done.
We need a leader that can lead on day one. I have no doubt that Kevin can do that.”
